Parish Offerings
ECS Philly and the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania
Episcopal Community Services (ECS Philly) was founded more than 150 years ago by the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania as the outreach arm of its ministry, an expression of the Church’s commitment to serve neighbors in need through action grounded in faith.
Today, ECS Philly operates as an independent nonprofit, and the Diocese’s outreach efforts extend beyond ECS Philly. At the same time, the relationship between ECS Philly and the Diocese remains active, collaborative, and deeply rooted in shared purpose. ECS Philly and the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania continue to work together to connect faith with action and supporting individuals and families across Philadelphia and Darby as they move toward stability, opportunity, and lasting change.
This partnership takes many forms. Through parish relationships, a shared covenant, and the presence of a dedicated chaplain, ECS Philly supports congregations in engaging in meaningful outreach, education, and service. Individual churches and deaneries remain important partners in this work, contributing time, resources, and community leadership.
As an organization, ECS Philly continues to reflect the values of the Episcopal tradition:
- Loving its neighbors through a place-based approach that builds capacity and addresses intergenerational poverty
- Striving for dignity, justice, and community through its programs and advocacy
efforts - Supporting individuals and families as they move from crisis to stability to thriving
Together, ECS Philly and the Diocese embody a shared belief that lasting change happens when compassion is paired with action and when communities come together in service of the common good.
Our Chaplain
ECS’ chaplain, The Rev. Kyle Evans, a deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, nurtures relationships between parishes and communities, helping uncover how shared service reflects the heart of the Gospel. As a bridge between ECS and congregations, the chaplain fosters understanding, challenges misconceptions, and inspires meaningful outreach rooted in faith, compassion, and the Baptismal Covenant.
Volunteer Opportunities
Join ECS at the St. Barnabas Community Resource Center to help prepare individual meals for neighbors facing food insecurity. It’s a hands-on volunteer opportunity that directly supports families in West Philadelphia—and a meaningful way to connect, give back, and be part of a stronger, more caring community.
The ECS Chaplain offers spiritual support and guidance for parish partnerships—walking with you in justice, mission, and ministry.
