Community Conversations: Public Safety, Public Voice: Accountability in Action

February 27, 2026

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Community Conversations: Public Safety, Public Voice — Accountability in Action, hosted at St. Barnabas Community Resource Center in partnership with Lenfest Every Voice, Every Vote. The event brought neighbors, advocates, and city leaders together to talk openly about what public safety really looks like across Philadelphia.

The conversation featured voices from violence prevention, journalism, community advocacy, and city leadership: Adam Garber from CeaseFirePA, Mensah Dean from The Trace, Adara Combs from The Office of the Victim Advocate, City of Philadelphia, Eric Marsh Sr. from The Philadelphia Center for Gun Violence Reporting, and Deion Sumpter from The Office of Safe Neighborhoods, moderated by Meaghan McDonald from PEW Charitable Trust.

The panel discussed public safety in many forms, from community programs to respectful journalism.

Eric Marsh Sr. highlighted, “When we talk about reduction in gun violence and homicides… there is no one solution, one person, or one department that created this. It is a collective responsibility and a shared responsibility.”

Panelists also encouraged attendees to commit to one public safety-related civic action in the next 30-60 days.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke up, and helped move the conversation forward. Together, we’re shaping what safe, thriving neighborhoods can look like across Philadelphia.
